An important component of the German Federal Government's strategy to counter loneliness is the recurring collection and publication of valid facts and figures on loneliness in Germany. This is being implemented by the Loneliness Network Germany at the Institute for Social Work and Social Education with the ‘Loneliness Barometer’. The Loneliness Barometer 2024 examines the long-term development of the impact and burden of loneliness within the German population (persons 18 years and older) on the basis of representative data by the Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP) between 1992 and 2021. More detailed information on the statistical methodology can be found in the statistical appendix .
